Why HPU?

Curriculum

HPU offers over 60 majors and minor areas of study. Of particular interest to me is the exercise science program. The program has a wide range of classes, a phenomenal lab, and offers undergraduate research opportunities. I hope to be part of the Exercise Science Fellows Program which provides experiential, team-based experiences with like-minded students. While at HPU I hope to complete a bachelors in exercise science and then attend the DPT program.

Support

HPU offers academic support to students, specifically through the OARS and Learning Excellence programs. Attending a college that is committed to providing students with learning differences equal access to services as well as programming that offers personalized academic coaching that help students achieve extraordinary results is very important to me. While visiting HPU I had the opportunity to meet with both the OARS and Learning Excellence offices. Everybody was so friendly and happy to meet with me. While at HPU, I hope to find a home in the OARS and Learning Excellence offices.

Experiential Learning

HPU ensures at least a quarter of everything taught has an experiential component. This lets students bring real-world context to classroom content. Of particular interest to me are experiential learning opportunities in internships, research, and study abroad. Interning in physical therapy offices while in high school has helped me see that doing hands-on learning is critical to success. While at HPU I will take advantage of experiential learning opportunities.

Campus

The HPU campus is amazing; music, water fountains, statues, flowers, pools and so much more. The campus feels safe and you get the sense of HPU’s focus on health and wellbeing right away. The state-of-the-art gym, the healthy food choices, and the bright and sunny dorms. While at HPU I will do my part to keep the campus pristine and show respect for the campus.

Community

HPU has a culture of caring people. I was really moved by the HPU’s Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Valentine’s dance, an event hosted by HPU and High Point’s Park and Recreation’s ASPIRE (Adaptive Sports, Programs and Inclusive Recreation) program. While at HPU I will do my best to share my values of service, joy, generosity, gratitude, and respect within the HPU community and the local High Point community.

Opportunities

HPU offers endless opportunities for students. Dr. Qubein's Life Skills class sounds amazing and I can't wait to take the class. HPU also offers many clubs and organizations. During one of my visits, I learned about HPU’s Sport & Society Global Experience, where students learned about sports within the US during spring classes and then took a Maymester trip to Ireland and the U.K. to learn about European sports cultures. While at HPU, I hope to take advantage of a similar Maymester program as well as join clubs and organizations and apply for internships.

Panther Pride

I am already a Panther! A PVI Panther that is.

School pride is important. It strengthens the sense of community. I can't wait to carry on the HPU tradition of school spirit both on and off the fields. While at HPU, you will find me cheering on the sports teams and hopefully spreading the word about HPU's extraordinary opportunities as a University Ambassador.

Faith. Family. Friends.

Having spent my entire life in a faith-based school community, I am drawn to the religious aspect of HPU. HPU’s dedication to interfaith engagement is of particular interest to me. While at HPU I will carry on the school's commitment to collaboration, service, understanding, and appreciation for differences among religious and spiritual beliefs by attending Wednesday night Chapel and actively participating in activities that strengthen religious life.

As a Patriotic University, HPU’s respect for our Country's history and flag is apparent all over campus. I grew up in a proud American family, whose ancestors immigrated to this country. Our family demonstrates support for America through military and diplomatic service, advocacy, civil service, and pride in our flag. While at HPU, I will continue to honor our veterans through service.
